Seller's Description:
B&W era photo section. As New in Good+ jacket. Book CONDITION: UNREAD, but not quite perfect, 1990 UT Press hardcover (red boards) & dust jacket (reworked) in mylar cover, first edition, first printing. Part of the American Studies Series. PROBLEMS: UT went through a period of putting out horrible dust jackets-this is one of them. I have added color to rubbings to make the DJ more even and easier to look at-plus the book does have an embossed stamp on title and 1/2 title page with a few small foxing spots top and fore edges. Actually better than it sounds. Small B&W era photo section. Notes, bibliography, index. Includes a map. CONTENT: Helen Hunt Jackson became known as the Harriet Beecher Stowe for Native Americans with the overwhelming success of her book, Ramona. Jackson hoped the novel would arouse public sentiment for California's Mission Indians as Uncle Tom's Cabin had for black slaves. Ironically, though, many readers overlook the protest inherent in this love story, and Jackson's untiring efforts in behalf of Indians have been similarly forgotten. The novel was written in 1884 and there are 5 movies made with the novel as the basis-from 1910 to 1946-both Loretta Young and Delores Del Rio played Ramona.
