This is usually published as a double with The doors of perception, as a single volume. The Doors (yes- the psyrock group took their name from the book) tells of Aldous' experience with Peyote. Heaven and Hell reflects more deeply on what the trip might mean, as it appears to highly cultivated literary genius. The problem I have is that although I find it an enjoyable read, as soon as I put it down I can't for the life of me recall what the argument is or where it was leading.
I have never tripped myself but what I read of the experience is that to those who undergo such hallucinogen mind adventures, it all seems overwhelmingly significant at the time but when you come down you are back to reality and can't quite recall what the significance was. This book captures that for me.
