This is a story about a megastar that disappears at the apex of her fame and fortune. Jake Gannon, an honest biographer (I didn't know there were any of them left), is on her trail; hoping to tell the real story of why Devon Stafford left Hollywood.
Gannon's pride-and-joy (his Porsche) breaks down and he realizes he is in the middle of nowhere. As a mechanically-challenged ex-Marine, Gannon calls for a tow truck. Dixie La Fontaine, tow truck driver extraordinaire, brings Jake and his baby Porsche back to Mare's Nest for repairs.
Neatness-freak Jake recognizes that he is very interested in the neatness-challenged Dixie; Dixie is also interested in the uptight Gannon. Each denies the attraction because the other doesn't meet their requirements for a suitable companion.
The secondary characters were written with the same care as were the main characters. The action moved at a good pace; this is a fairly short book. The author used quite a bit of wit to show the characters in action.
The beginning of this story yelled ?keeper;? however, it became predictable and syrupy at the end.
