An amazing sleeper
I have heard many of these stories from their original teller's mouth, and it was his son (my husband) who wrote them down longhand. I was their transliterator, and it was this collection and two others in the same series that started me on my own quest to become a writer. When I started the job, I couldn't type, couldn't use a computer. I'd stay up all night to keep pace with my author husband's handwritten manuscript. The stories were my reward, and I will never forget writing the final story in this book--The House by the Talking Falls--with tears running down my face. It is a stunner, and all of it true.
Unfortunately when this book was published it got caught up in a cross-Canada distributing fiasco, and when people ordered it, could not be obtained because hundreds of copies were being held in a locked warehouse pending some kind of legal proceedings.
Since my husband was a recluse, he would not give readings. Hence this book is a sleeper, even though it was nominated for a prestigious award.
It deserves success, and one day that will come. Read it, and you will agree with me. You will also want to read the other two books, also true stories from my father-in-law's amazing life.
