Seller's Description:
(CALLAHAN, HARRY). Callahan, Harry. Foreword by Hugo Weber. HARRY CALLAHAN: PHOTOGRAPHS. Santa Barbara, CA: El Mochuelo Gallery, 1964. First Edition 1/1500. Small Folio. Gilt-Stamped Cloth in Slipcase. Photography Monograph. Near Fine/No Jacket-As Issued. np, 126 duotone plates. With a bibliography by Bernard Karpel. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Published in a stated edition of fifteen hundred copies, this exquisite 1964 Harry Callahan monograph is notoriously scarce as it has been widely reported that only half of these were actually ever bound for sale. A tight and bright, most handsome example (cited on pages 202-203 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", page 160 of "From Fair to Fine: 20th Century Photography Books That Matter", and pages 168-169 of "The Book of 101 Books") marred only by the typical browning of the glue binding the endpapers to the boards-as is the case with every copy that we've ever handled-in a well-preserved, lightly-scuffed slipcase. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight and value-we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase. Inventory Number: 025041.
