Her biography of Harriet Martineau (1802-1876), who has been called "the first modern sociologist, " is a sympathetic one. Martineau was very prominent in the intellectual circles of her day, writing on history, political economy, and children's literature. This is a Near Fine copy of the Third Edition, designated as part of the "Eminent Women Series. Edited by John H. Ingram." Ingram was a prominent editor and biographer, an advocate for the literary reputation of Edgar Poe. There is no publication date, but the First Edition was 1884, and the Second in 1889.
