Seller's Description:
Very Good in Good jacket. Ex-library book with usual stamps, stickers, etc. Binding is solid and text/interior is clean. 400 pp. Fully illustrated with line drawings, diagrams, patterns & b/w photos. pages 256-281 marred by solvent (? ) stain--about 1" in light yellow. Pretty crazy reference book: the examples in the handbook encompass a great variety of patterns--architectural and ornamental, religious and commercial, ancient and modern--all of which can be generated from a surprisingly few basic configurations. The book makes a step-by-step exploration of those configurations, starting with simple symmetries of mirror reflection, rotations, translations and glide-reflections, building to point groups and the seven distinct band or linear arrays, and culminating in the seventeen full-fledges wallpaper patterns. Illustrations are taken from textiles, pottery, brickwork, mosaics, building plans, and natural forms.
