FROM THE TITLE PAGE: "'Necronomicon, ' denoting masks of names of death, was a book written by a madman, Abduhl al Azred, who lived in Yemen seven centuries after the birth of Christ. Following a tortuous journey to the ruins of Babylon and the secret temple at Memphis, al Azred began worshipping the dark gods, 'Cthiullu' and 'Yoxodo, ' and performing black magic. He was said to have lived for ten years in Belet el Jin, know as the forbidden city of the Devil. In the 'Necronomicon, ' al Azred dubbed it the 'City of Evil. ' He performed his rituals there and became familiar with evil spirits. It was in the; City of Evil; that he discovered obscure, frightful mysteries about a prehistoric race order than mankind itself. In 738 A.D., Abdhul al Azred died a horrible death.
