You will not work this plot out half way through! This innovative and clever plot is told in 3 sections, from Helen's concerns, then Paul's (her sullen, angry husband) and Tasha's, a Czech girl awaiting an English passport. Each section gives the viewer a little more information, until in Tasha's section, it all comes together and discloses... it's nail-biting finish.
The camera work is up close and edgy, the sound uneven, but the acting, directing and story is superb, and the camera work somehow accentuates the tensions and passions.
At moments it is uncomfortable to watch, so raw and unpleasant is it, but persevere, because this is a work of art, a wonderful film where every frame, every word counts towards its surprising completion .
Rula Lenska is excellent as Tasha's mother, and the three leads, Pauline McLynn as Helen, Chloe Sirene as Tasha, and Paul McGann as Paul cannot be faulted, and are so real and gritty that viewers might feel they live next door and are part of their own story.
A memorable gem of a movie.
