Having performed/recorded with a multitude of artists over the years, Appice appeared to have launched a promising solo career in the early '80s, with the release of Rockers in 1981. But fans waiting for a solo Appice follow-up would have to wait a nice and cozy 15 years, when Guitar Zeus finally appeared. Appice didn't use the long layoff between solo albums unwisely, however, as he assembled a multitude of renowned guitarists to lend a hand, including Slash, Yngwie Malmsteen, Brian May, Ted Nugent, and Elliot Easton. Hard rock is the name of the game here, with standouts including the Doug Pinnick-sung "This Time Around," the two-part title track guitar smorgasbord, and the moody "Where You Belong."
