One of three volumes in Time Life's Guitar Rock series (not including the original two-disc set titled simply Guitar Rock), Guitar Rock: Power Rock plays like poorly segued album-rock radio -- the songs and artists are generally familiar and of high quality, but the mix of sounds and styles doesn't seem to make much sense when viewed as a whole, and the sudden musical shifts from track to track can be jarring if you expect continuity. Having said that though, the collection can be a very entertaining listen if you take it as a series of great individual moments; some of those moments include Ted Nugent's "Dog Eat Dog," Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Comin'," Boston's "Don't Look Back," Jeff Beck's "You Shook Me," Santana's "Everybody's Everything," and Johnny Winter's version of "Highway 61 Revisited."
