In the genre of new age music, Soulfood is probably one of the best practitioners. Performing with guitarist Billy McLaughlin on this release, Soulfood proves that this genre of music does not have to be boring or played sparsely. Performing with guitarist Billy McLaughlin on this release, Soulfood proves that this genre of music does not have to be boring or played sparsely. The gorgeous acoustic guitar playing of McLaughlin not only drives the whole affair, but provides several beautiful sound pictures. Highlights include the lush "Dream Sketcher" and the keyboard-tinged "The Pond." Toward the end of the album, things do begin to drag; unfortunately, with this genre the participants often seem to lack the momentum needed to carry an entire album. Still, there is some real quality music to be found here.
