A. die Wollwcberey nicht ubten, wie noch jetzo die Mongolen, zu ihren Zelten bedienten. Auch die Gallier gebrauchten diesen Stoff zu ihren Polstern (?Ii. VIII, 73), und bey Willeram fuhrt das Zelt den Namen Vil-nu. Das Wort Filz, grlech. IN05, wovon der Lateiner nur das Ableltniss NIsu Filzhut besitzt, scheint, wie schon Adelung nachgewiesen, naher mit Fell, Pelz, oder auch mit flllen schlagen, als mit'dem lat. riliu Faden ver, wandt. Der lat. Name des Filzes ist Conet . Weit mehr kunstliche Vorrichtungen erfodere ble Ver, arbeitung des Haares und der Wolle zu Tuche, In unser, Europa sollen nach Justin (II, 6) zuerst die Athener die Verarbeitung der Wolle gelehrt, nach Varro rssm. 7. 363) aber die Bewohner der nahen Insel Keos durch die feinere Verarbeitung derselben zu Frauenschmuck sich aus, gezeichnet haben. Hippokrates ruhmt die abendlichen Iberer und die kolchische Korarer als Verfertiger de'r schonsten Wollengewebe. Strabo zieht (III, p. 144) sogar noch die turdetanische Wolle der' koraxlschen vor, und ruhmt die Weberey de'r Turdetaner, besonders aber die feinen Tucher aus Satabis (jetzt Xativa), welche zu seiner Zelt, wie fruherhin auch viele fertige Kleider, von daher nach Italien und Griechenland verfuhrt wurden.
