Die 1955 durch Regierungskonvention gegriindete Internationale Organisation fUr Gesetz- liches MeBwesen (Organisation Internationale de Metrologie Legale, OIML), der 48 Staaten angehbren (Stand: Januar 1983), hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, allgemeine Grundsatze filr das amtliche MeB- und Eichwesen zu erarbeiten und international anerkannte Anforderungen an MeBgerate und MeBverfahren festzulegen. Aus der Notwendigkeit heraus, sich Uber die damit verbundenen Probleme verstandigen zu mUssen, wurde eine internationale Arbeitsgruppe beauftragt, die grundlegenden Begriffe zum MeB- und Eichwesen zu definieren und in einem Wbrterbuch zusarmnenzufassen. Die Federftihrung lag bei Dr. Obalski yom polnischen Staatsamt fUr das MeBwesen, der selbst zu den Initiatoren dieser Idee gehbrt und durch seine Arbeit wesentlich zu ihrer Verwirk- lichung beigetragen hat. Die nationale Arbeitsgruppe lei tete Prof. Dr. MUhe von der Physikalisch-Technischen Bun- desanstalt, der technischen Oberbehbrde filr das MeB- und Eichwesen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Er gab auch die erste Obersetzung der in franzbsisch, der offiziellen Sprache der Organisation, abgefaBten Entwiirfe in den PTB-Mitteilungen heraus. Einen vorlaufigen AbschluB fanden die Arbeiten am Wbrterbuch mit der Genehmigung der Texte durch die dritte Internationale Konferenz fUr Gesetzliches MeBwesen im Jahr 1968.
