Size: 9x7x1; 2005 Tornado Publications (West Des Moines, Iowa), 8 x 8 inches paperbound in color pictorial covers, housed in a matching hardback cover with grey cloth fore edge ties, with the book secured to the covers at the spine by velcro, copiously illustrated with mostly color photographs, 192 pp. Slight rubbing and edgewear to hardcovers, and spine slightly cocked, with mild bumping to the fore edge. Nicely signed and inscribed by the author / photographer on the title page. A bit of glue residue to the gutter between the front cover and title page of the paperbound book, but the binding is quite solid. Otherwise, a very good copy-clean, bright and unmarked-of this uncommon issue, nicely signed. ~SP04~ [2.0P] Examines the stone carvings known as 'grotesques' and differentiates them from 'gargoyles. ' Some of the finest examples of grotesques in the world can be found in Des Moines and elsewhere in Iowa. These are compared to those found in other parts of the United States and in Europe.
