I'll be brief:
Forget that Peacock is a legend among environmentalists.
Forget that he was the inspiration for Hayduke in Edward Abbey's "The Monkey Wrench Gang."
All you really need to know about this book is that the story is not only true, it's mesmerizing, and anyone equally interested in protecting the apex predators in our wildlands and the heroes who've served our country (and still do) ought to read this to gain a better understanding of both.
Once you do though, be prepared to take some time off work to finish it. This book kept me up nights, and drove me to seek out the sequel, "Walking It Off," written much later.
Buy this. Read it. Pass it on to your friends. It is an amazing book by a rare American.
