Two lengthy chapters in Book 3 of Great Michigan Deer Tales unravel the mystery surrounding the highest scoring typical antlered whitetail known taken by a hunter in North America. The exceptionally wide 12-point rack was grown by a buck Mitch Rompola of Traverse City got with bow and arrow during November of 1998. There's new information about the deer and the hunter who took it that have never before been published. All of the pertinent information is brought together in this new book to provide a clear picture of how Michigan played an important role in making whitetail hunting history. The antlers from the Rompola buck measure 216 5/8, three inches more than the current world record. Although most hunters will want to read the latest information about the state's best buck ever, there are many more interesting stories about Michigan's top ranking whitetails in Book 3 to help get deer hunters primed for 2001 seasons. This third collection of outstanding deer tales may be the most exciting yet. The book contains a total of 15 chapters, some of which cover the true tales behind two or more trophy bucks. The chapter titled Baraga County Nontypicals, for example, tells how eight Boone and Crockett qualifying bucks with nontypical racks that came from this U.P. county over the years, were taken. This chapter includes a fascinating account of how one hunter bagged a pair of trophy nontypicals from the same stand two years in a row and those bucks are thought to have been brothers. Another chapter covers the amazingstories behind a pair of state muzzleloading record bucks, both of which were taken in the same county. "Thumbs Up Booners" is about a pair of world class whitetails bagged in the thumb during the same year. Other chapters are devoted to hunts on which a father and son claimed one of the state's highest scoring bucks, a pair of brothers who teamed up to successfully stalk a 180 class whitetail with bow and arrow in the rain, a bowhunter who bagged a booner on his first hunt and much, much more. Book 1 of the series was published in 1994 and Book 2 was printed during 1998. Both books remain popular reading before, during and after the state's deer seasons. The text of each volume, which have totally different chapters, lives up to the title, detailing the how, when, where and who behind the tagging of the state's biggest bucks. The books also contain plenty of quality photographs that show off the exceptional whitetails discussed in this unique collection of chapters. Book 3 will continue the tradition started by Books 1 and 2 of providing in depth stories about some of the biggest bucks bagged in the state. The new book includes all new chapters, many of which are about Michigan's monster bucks that have been bagged since Book 2 was published.
