Des hommes, fort instruits d'ailleurs, mais qui ne savaient rien de l'origine des langues n???o - latines, rien dela litt???rature des troubadours rien des anciens ???crits en ni???ard, ne voyaient dans cet idiome, les uns qu'un patois grossier, ni proven???al ni pi???montais les autres, qu'un m???lange confus de mots frustes, de locutions corrompues provenant de sources fort diverses: pour d'autres enfin, moins fantaisistes, le ni???ois ???tait tout simplement un mauvais dialecte italien. L'erreur de ces derniers avait du moins pour excuse la grande analogie qui existe entre les deux langues soeurs d'oc et de si, et en outre la forme elle - m???me des mots, qu'ils voyaient orthographi???s ??? l'ita Benne.
