One night, Miranda has a hideous nightmare in which a chance meeting with a strange young girl leads to a terrifying journey into madness. Once she wakes, however, Miranda discovers that the real horror has just begun -- Doug has been brutally murdered, and the evidence points to Miranda as the prime suspect. She soon finds herself a patient in the same facility where she once treated others, and finds that her claims of innocence and sanity do little to convince Dr. Pete Graham (Robert Downey Jr.), the psychologist assigned to her case. Is the paranormal/ghost thriller a genre that has found a sucess formula in building on the pluses of the previous version? There are well placed clues to what's going on spaced throughout the film. The actors all deliver their parts with plenty of emotion (a must to set mood in the genre). Anyone would have to be really inept NOT to win our appreciation with Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz in the production supported by the well talented likes of Downey, Dutton and Lynch. The only drawback is that to set mood, that newly discovered and now overused blue filtering of the light to set the mood is often distracting yet even this is somewhat saved by brilliant camerawork. The DVD Bonus contains insightful observations by the director and cinematographer.
