Whether fighting a greedy, deceitful politician or rescuing a dog she fears, Lois notices the headlines in her life have definitely improved. She learns how to provide small-town news in a big-hearted way and realizes that life is full of newsworthy moments. When she encounters racial prejudice and financial corruption, Lois also discovers more about the goodness of real people and the importance of being part of a community. Reading this book I feel like a learned how a newspaper business operates. Living in a small town myself I could so relate to the Community. As this summer here was in the 100s, I could relate to the heat of Louisiana.
Lois Barker takes over a newspaper willed to her by her friend who worked with her in big city. He bought the paper and then got Leukemia. So he willed it to her and she had to operate it for a year.
In this story, you can see God's plan unfold in circumstance after circumstance. Lois did not want to stay in Green, La more than the year but found herself very involved in the community. So when she found a buyer she could not sell.
You also can see how one person's life made a big difference in the life of a town and other people too.
Be advised though it is a book you won't be able to lay down. I cannot wait to read another book by this author.
