I did appreciate the mix of relationship struggles with bicycle journey struggles. Having been a young man myself, I could relate to some of the growth issues he had to face in order to become a man and not an older boy. Using the back drop of a bicycle journey to tell the relationship story was a good writing tool. That all said, I thought, when I made this purchase, I would be getting more of the journey story. The stories of sex may have made the relationship more modern and more realistic, but they also showed, to me, the immaturity of this young man as he took on the mantle of his own Odyssey. I wish the journey had demonstrated growth in the young man. Perhaps he viewed the ultimate breakup as such. But, I saw it as two immature people realizing that they did not want to leave their comfort zones. If parts of his thoughts during the solo journey back, perhaps from anger to acceptance had been included, I might have appreciated this book more.
