The year was 1981 and as Ronald Reagan was being sworn into office, Iran was releasing American hostages, and Israel and the PLO both rejected Egypt's proposed peace plan, Glenn O'Brien was about to launch a musical crusade to take back the Holy Land. With snow falling outside and a huddled group of devoted partiers determined to keep the music coming, the TV Party Orchestra launched into a performance of medieval punk rock that featured the talents of harmonium monk Chris Stein, flutist knight Lenny Ferrari, slide-guitar sorcerer Patrick Geoffrois, and organ wizard Walter Steding. A Holy Land Funk rap performed by Fab Five Freddy kept the rhymes rolling even as tensions were high, and popular deejay Johnny Dynell even made an angelic appearance to offer a glimmer of hope from above. Inspired by the theories of Wilhelm Reich and Marshall Macluhan, O'Brien himself dons rabbit-ears antenna to perform the first-ever live television mass mass orgone transmission in a program originally broadcast live from ETC Studios on February 17, 1981.
