Excerpt: ...qui ess verte: les couvertures, tant du dess'us que du defjous de la queue, font fi longues, qu'en ne voit peint les couleurs de la queue, a moins quelle ne foit un peu etendue: on a donc un peu racourci ces couvertures dans le defjein, pour montrer le beaute de la queue: les jambes, les pattes et les ongles de cet oifeau etoient d'un brun obfcur, comme ceux d'autres Perruches. C'etoit un male: la femelle a la tete d'un rouge plus pale, et le cote de l ' aile jaune aux environs de la jointure. f ai par devers moi quelques uns de ces 'Perroquets defeches. On les apporte de Guinee fur la cote d'Af rique, et ils font plus communs ici, qu'aucune autre forte de 'Perroquets. Willughby a donne, d'apres Clufius, une longue this bird from Clufius, and fays, it is a native of Ethiopia. See Willughby's Ornithology, Engliih, p. 119. Barbot, in his Hiftory of Guiney, Engliih, p. 220, has given a figure and pretty full defcription of it; and fays, it is very deftructive to the corn-fields. Albin has figured and defcribed it in his Hiftory of Birds, vol. III. p. 15, and fays, without any authority, that it comes from the Eaft Indies. Seba, yol. II. p. 40, calls it the Little Parrakeet of America, painted of divers colours. Others make its native place Brafil. The reafon of this variety of accounts is, that this bird is generally brought to us by ihips vvhofe laft departure was from America; for they who trade to Guiney rarely return diredly from thence to Europe; but, in purfuance of their abominable and unnatural trafrick in the human fpecies, fail with fhip-loads of Negroes to the American colonies, where they fell the unhappy Wretches, as civilized people do brute beafts;.
