Fair with no dust jacket. First edition. Hard cover published by Hodder and Stoughton in London in 1940. No dust jacket. Dark green covers with gilt lettering on spine. Covers are stained and scuffed, spine is cocked, and corners are bumped and worn, with some splitting of cloth and fraying. Spine is wrinkled and worn at the ends, is torn down back side and torn some at the ends, and is loose from binding. Side edge of pages has a stain near upper corner and bottom edge of pages has some foxing. Inner front hinge is partially split, and rear inner hinge is split. Pages have some tanning.
