Included in this book are 4 stories about outlaws with heart. Sometimes they don't see that their redeeming values until someone points it out.
THE OUTLAW by Jodi Thomas (5 stars)
Cozette is an accomplished liar and she needs a bridegroom fast! Someone paid Frederick Bates to seduce Cozette before the story begins. She is worried that she may with child and her father will never forgive her.
Cozette has another problem - her uncle is trying to steal the family's large ranch from her. He's already talked Cozette's dad into changing his will. Now, the ranch is willed to Cozette's husband, not her.
As Cozette is praying for a miracle, in walks outlaw Michael Hughes. He's overseeing the robbers (of her wedding gifts). Jodi Thomas turns this into a match made in heaven!
TROUBLE IN PETTICOATS by Linda Broday (4.5 stars)
Broday did an excellent job of explaining why Larissa had to accompany outlaw Johnny Diamond to find her sister. Beth has been abducted for ransom from cattle baron Dunston Patrick's home. Diamond has 5 days to find Beth and he's headed south.
The only fault I found with the story is that Broday didn't allow Dunston Patrick to have a single admirable quality. This is usually a mistake made by an inexperienced writer, not an established author.
TEXAS FLAME by Phyliss Miranda (2.5 stars, a gift)
This story meandered around until I didn't really care about the story any more. The novella opens with outlaw Savannah Parker pointing a shotgun at Ethan Kimble's heart.
This couple has a long history together but separated years before. Kimble has to bring Savannah back to Galveston to face the judge for robbing a series of banks, starting with her father's bank.
I forced myself to finish the story. Miranda wasted two perfectly fine characters with the dumb execution of a plot.
MOST WANTED by DeWanna Pace (4.5 stars)
There's a great deal of humor in this novella. Odessa Kilmore breaks outlaw Shadow Rivers out of jail to help her get back to her hometown and clear her name. Odessa's wanted posters are scattered around the state, making travel dicey.
There is instant chemistry between the couple; they are outsiders bruised by their interactions with "society."
Overall, 4 stars for the book. Oh, by the way, the outlaw on the cover is to die for! I might give the book away ... but never the cover!
