This issue features essays on prints from the childhood of Louis XIV; material culture in colonial Brazil; the interaction of painting with early photography in Mughal India; commercial photography in interwar Germany; Pierre Koenig's Case Study House 21; and four essays examining how expectations in the early days of photography shaped its future. Two essays detail recently developed tools of scholarship: a web-based project on the drawings of .lie-Honor. Montagny and a study of mystery rites on the island of Samothrace informed by GIS technology.
