Friedrich II. von Preussen, der kurz vorher in einem Alter von 28 Jahren unter den heiligsten Freundschaftsversicherungen gegen Oesterreich den Thron bestiegen hatte, fiel, wahrend sich seine Abgeordneten noch in Wien befanden, mit gewaffneter Hand in die osterreichischen Staaten, und forderte die Furstenthumer Liegnitz, Brieg, Wohlau und Jagerndorf, auf welche er Anspruche zu haben behauptete. Jeden Vergleich und Zusicherung von Hilfe seinerseits gegen Abtretung dieser Provinzen aber schlug die hochherzige Frau mit den Worten aus: sie habe den Thron nicht bestiegen, um ihn zu zerstuckeln; weder das Ganze, noch die Halfte von Schlesien konne sie abtreten, und wolle der Konig Freundschaft halten und sich vergleichen, so mussten seine Heere vor Allem die Erbstaaten raumen.
