Excerpt from Germany, England, and Scotland: Or Recollections of a Swiss Minister IN the spring of gthe year 1845, the author was called upon to undertake a journey, into Germany and Great Britain, for the purpose of drawing closer the bonds of union between those countries and the Christians of Geneva, and in particular with the Evangelical Society of this town. On his return, his Genevese friends requested from him an account of what he had seen. The author deemed it his duty not to refuse this request; and the report was made at the end of the winter of 1846, in four meetings, which were held either in the great hall of the Casino, or in the chapel of the Oratoire. In the following year, in the winter of 1847, the author was again asked if he had no other commu nications to make, and, therefore, to the recollections of his journey, presented on the previous year, he added some historical recollections. As the public who attended these meetings seemed to think that it would be beneficial to publish his statements, the author sends them to the press. This work is naturally divided into two parts: Travelling Recol lections and Historical Recollections. The author.
