This book delivers on its promise
The book focuses on individual grammatical structures with descriptions and examples followed by exercises. It starts with one of the most important grammar concept, the gendered article, which affects most other grammar concepts, i.e. cases, pronouns, adjectives. There are three groupings in the manual, each concludes with a review test. This helps identify which areas need to be reviewed. Finally, it has a comprehensive final exam which serves the same purpose of identifying which concepts need further practice.
I am a German native but find the use of this practice manual a valuable addition to the practice exercises that usually come with German course textbooks and even exercise manuals because it gives students additional practice but also expands beyond the vocabulary of the course textbook. I have been told that this additional practice is very helpful to help ground grammatical concepts. Even as a German native, I have benefited from some of the descriptions of the grammatical structures.
It assumes a basic familiarity with the German language and is not meant as a substitute for a German language course. Nonetheless, I would have started with the word order of the German sentence because it is the most elemental grammar structure. In conclusion, the book does a thorough review of grammar and I highly recommend it.
