Seller's Description:
Bingham, George Caleb. Fine in Very Good jacket. Book. 4to-over 9¾"-12" tall. Norman, OK, University of Oklahoma, 1959. First edition. 4to. Light brown buckram cloth with dark brown title field and gilt lettering embossed on spine, illustrated in black and white, text block top edge stained red, 454 pp. George Caleb Bingham has come to be one of the most admired painters in American history. He could scarcely have escaped becoming notable as an artist because of the scores of portraits he painted between 1833 and 1844. Almost untutored in art, he created his own admirable style, as revealed in the 112 genre drawings in crayon, reproduced here in their entirety for the first time, many of which can be found reproduced in the 74 paintings featured in this book. Dust jacket front chipped at bottom corner, lower section of jacket flap has ¾" flat tear, small perforations and wrinkles, some discoloration along edge on rear jacket. Bindings are clean, corners sharp, text block tight, bright and gently read. Fine in a very good dust jacket, protected by a mylar cover.
