He was named Poet Laureate of California by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger from 2005 to 2008. I read his novel, Snakes 'round about 1972, when Henry Weinhard's came in a tall bottle. I followed his work casually over the years and mentioned my admiration to a mutual friend, who knew him well enough to have him inscribe this copy to me. Or was it a long neck.; Signed by Author.
