Seller's Description:
Third Printing. 750pp. One of the authoritative works on the subject. Very good, backstrip slightly faded. DJ is good, slightly frayed, price clipped. (loc 626)
This books spends a great deal of page discussing the effect of the first Arab-Israeli war upon the innocent victims of both sides. It was a chilling reminder of what is the true cost of war.

First Arab-Israeli War!
This is a good history of the founding of the state of Israel focusing primarily on the military actions of both sides. The author interviewed many people who fought for Israel as well as a number who fought for the Arabs. While obviously favoring the Israelis, the author presents the Arab side adequately. Much of the narrative is decriptions of the personal experiences of soldiers and others involved in the fighting or in major political and diplomatic events. This makes the history much more accessible and human - the reader "feels" what the various participants in events felt.
Although I have read several books on the same subject, this is the first that provided extensive information about the Irgun and the Stern Gang, extremist Zionist groups noted for assassinations and bombings. The book also provides an excellent portrait of David Ben-Gurion as political and military leader.
