However, Duncan's mission is unexpectedly changed once he reaches the Sibyl: she tells him to leave her and take her daughter, Jochebed, instead. Jochebed also carries the gift of visions, and her existence is, so far, unknown to Hesperides. Duncan agrees, and thus begins an adventure that will change their lives forever. Duncan meets several new companions along the way: Barley, a magic scarecrow with healing powers; Zed, a lizard man merchant who can fight and charm with ease; Juniper, a brave sprite who defies her own queen to help them; and Gwendoline, another seer from the mysterious Northern Continent. Jochebed begins to have visions of an old castle in a forest, surrounded by mountains. When the visions start to include Duncan, standing inside the castle throne room, the pull of destiny cannot be ignored. The companions embark on a quest to find the castle, which Gwendoline believes to be the long-abandoned keep of the ancient Gaxali Kingdom on her continent.
