I ordered a used copy of the first edition of this textbook (beacuse i'm cheap) for my Conservation Biology class at University. The text is well-written and informative, with sidebars and graphical aides that do not detract. The charts and graphs in the third edition, which most of my classmates have, seem mostly to be much improved by the glossy, high-budget treatment the text has gone through.
