This book is a thoroughly researched and well presented history of the Fundamentalist movement and its place in American culture. In this edition, Marsden added another chapter which discusses how the movement and the terminology have changed since he first wrote the work in 1980. While Marsden is certainly sympathetic to the movement, he writes from a adequately disconnected vantage point, that takes note of the weaknesses as well as the strengths that this movement has exemplified. Over-all, this book is probably the best resource currently available on the history of Fundamentalism.
