The quantity or quantities upon the values of which the value of the function depends, are said to be the independent vari ables of the function. A function is one-valued, or uniform, when to every set of values assigned to the independent variables there cor responds but one value of the function. It is said to be ri-valued when to every set of values of the independent variables n values of the function correspond.
