The Fullerton Heritage Precinct, Singapore's downtown necklace of heritage gems, stretching from Collyer Quay along Raffles Quay to Shenton Way, captures this jewel within a ritzy 21st century setting.???Fullerton' was the name given to this site from the settlement's earliest days, with the establishment there of the British colonial government's great Fort Fullerton in 1829, circled by a battery of defensive cannon (hence the name ???Battery Road', just across from The Fullerton). The Fort was named after Sir Robert Fullerton, Singapore's British Governor from 1826 to 1830 in which year he left Singapore and then died in London. Now a new energy informs this most celebrated of Eastern ports, recreating heritage monuments, presenting new views, vistas and visions. AUTHOR: Ilsa Sharp is a British-born freelance writer and specialist in SE Asian affairs, with a Chinese Studies honours degree from Leeds University, UK. She has built up a strong track record for current affairs and economics/business reporting, writing and editing, as well as environment/nature/wildlife/popular science over her long career as a journalist and author, based in Singapore/Hong Kong/Australia and including extensive travel throughout the Asia-Pacific region, since 1968. She was a Hong Kong-based "China watcher" for the Far Eastern Economic Review in the 1970s, and among the first foreign journalists to travel in and report from China towards the end of the Cultural Revolution, in 1971. Sharp also has a parallel track record of public relations copy-writing and consultancy, both for business corporations and for government. She has specialized in commissioned institutional, corporate and government history books. Tim Nolan is a British photographer who has been based in Singapore since 1993. His work includes architectural and interiors photography for international architects and designers. His photographs have been featured in magazines and books published in Singapore and around the world. He also produces photographic and digital artworks for corporate clients.
