Drummer Peter Erskine mostly plays in support during this high-quality bop-oriented quartet date. The lead voice, tenor saxophonist Richard Torres (who had been with Stan Kenton during the period Erskine was there), displays an original tone sometimes slightly reminiscent of Ernie Watts, a swinging style, and the ability to improvise logical yet unpredictable solos.
