In this insider's biography of former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, the author shares his insights and work experiences with the former two-term vice president. Al Gore was one of his generation's most influential and gifted political leaders. As the 45th Vice President of the United States, Gore served two terms with President Bill Clinton during one of the nation's most peaceful and prosperous times. Gore played a significant role in domestic and foreign policy initiatives during that time, and his influence upon the office of the vice president was so substantial that most historians regard him as one of the nation's top three vice presidents in American history. Author Troy Gipson, a former campaign operative and longtime friend of Al Gore, has penned this rare, behind-the-scenes account of the former two-term vice president and climate change activist. In stunning detail, Gipson chronicles Gore's life and political service, from his upbringing in a prominent political family in rural Tennessee and Washington D.C to his rapid rise through the U.S. Congress to Vice President. The biography also delves into Gore's first presidential campaign in 1988 and the subsequent campaign in the 2000 presidential election, which ended in controversy over the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overrule the Florida state Supreme Court's ruling in allowing vote recounts. Gore lost the 2000 presidential election by 537 votes in Florida and four votes in the Electoral College, the closest presidential election in US history. Since leaving political office in 2001, Gore has focused his efforts on global climate change, with his New York Oscar-awarded documentary film An Inconvenient Truth becoming an international call for action for the global warming and climate change movement. Having known and worked with Al Gore since his first political campaign in 1976, the author offers a unique perspective on Gore's political service and personal attributes, including his character, loyalty, motivations, and sincere desire to make a difference in the nation and the world. About the Author Author Troy Gipson served as campaign coordinator and congressional intern to former Vice President Al Gore. He first met Gore in 1976, during his first campaign and election to the U.S. House of Representatives in Tennessee's 4th Congressional District. He later worked as a staffer in Gore's Congressional Office, as a campaign coordinator in Gore's political campaigns for the U.S. Senate in 1984 and 1990, and his presidential campaigns in 1988 and 2000. Mr. Gipson received his political science degree from Middle Tennessee State University (1986) and later managed several political campaigns in Tennessee. Gipson resides outside of Nashville, Tennessee.
