Essentially this is a thought-provoking history book. Where others may try to assimilate all the writing on the war to provide an attitude that lines up new facts (or accounts) with the published records of the leaders and countries, and the historians who had access to the archives initially just after the wars, these authors take it that these representatives of history need not be deferred to.
Where substantial evidence exists for them in areas such as the vast supply of huge amounts of not only conventional but also nuclear ideas and materials from the US to Russia, they are prepared to put it out there as fact. Such is important to the historian because we instantly want to discover... could this be true.... and survey all the relevant opinions and evidence.
At every turn this book pulls up perspectives you will hardly see at the level of textbooks. I would not accept any of the opinions expressed here without doing further and detailed work myself, but that is not to say that this book is wrong, it is right in inspiring you to throw up complacency and seek new research, For this reason I am sad to see it is rarely on the bookshelves and seems out of print.
