Outstanding Theater
It's strange how seemingly off-the-wall subjects can become fabulous theatre on both the small and the large screens: Chariots of Fire, All Creatures Great & Small, I, Claudius. FOYLE'S WAR is as good as any of these. It is the story of a small-town British detective during World War II. Michael Kitchen, who plays Dpty Chief Inspector Foyle, is one of Britain's best actors. Honeysuckle Weeks, who plays his driver/assistant, is perfect for the role. The mysteries are complex and VERY English. Like the prototypical British detective, Sherlock Holmes, Foyle is a self-contained man of few words who breaks cases on tiny bits of evidence. Precious few viewers can pick out the bad guy in advance. We love to have friends over to watch the episodes with us.
