I enjoyed the book as a good description of a brigade of Michigan and New York regiments. Brigadier Israel B. Richardson commanded the 2,3,5th Michigan Regiments and the 37th New York "Irish Rifles". Haydon's good descriptions of early operations of the fledgling Union army is very good. The Second Michigan is transferred to the Ninth Corps. Haydon dies of disease before the war ends; his diary is a legacy for students of the Civil War. Sears editing allows the Michigander thoughts speak to us
