So in the end Christina ended up with the loathsome Mark and her first love Dirk left her after the miscarriage of his and Christina's son and ended up with a servant. It's necessary to read the follow-up of the Flambard's Trilogy but it is a disappointing one and how we are suddenly supposed to believe that it is possible for Christina to love and marry Mark is beyond me. Otherwise the quality is as good as ever.
