Seller's Description:
Fine in very good jacket. Small 8vo, black cloth, d.w. (edge-chipped, but price intact). London: Chatto & Windus, 1948. First Edition. Presentation copy from George Santayana to Robert Lowell, December 1948. By 1947 Lowell had won the Pulitzer Prize and was on the way to becoming an unofficial laureate. He sent a copy of "Lord Weary's Castle" to Santayana in 1946, which led to a lasting correspondence. This is a wonderful association copy linking the two poets at the beginning of their friendship.
