Seller's Description:
Very Good in Very Good jacket. First edition. Spine lettering a bit rubbed, thus very good, later printing dustwrapper, as it came to us. Basis for the 1931 Robert Z. Leonard film featuring Marion Davies and Leslie Howard, an early talkie for both in which Davies is the heiress to a Kansas City Five-and-Ten retail chain, but finds herself snubbed by New York society.

Seller's Description:
Small 8vo. Black cloth with gilt lettering, dust jacket. 339pp. Decorative endpapers. Near fine/very good. Jacket a tad edgeworn, with spine faintly sunned and a few tiny edge chips--but present and fairly nice. A tight, attractive first edition of this New York fiction, which in 1931 was turned into a romantic drama featuring Marion Davies and Leslie Howard. This copy bears a choice autograph addition: Tipped before the half-title page is a Typed Note Signed from Hurst, 1p, 5" X 6½", n.p., 21 October 1940. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar). Fine. On embossed "FH" letterhead, Hurst tells this admirer "You are gracious to remember me on October 19th...I am glad you liked 'Our Country. ' Apparently it is a subject near and dear to both our hearts." Large bold signature in her typical red ink. A lovely first of this uncommon title in scarce jacket.
