This is a great book for children at about twelve or so years old...it is about a boy who is outcast from his society because of his blond hair and blue eyes. He lives in an alternative rural low-technology world, where blue eyes and blond hair is believed to be a sign of insanity at puberty. Most children born with either characteristic are left in the hills to die, but young Johnathon is saved. His mother is half-Dalriada...the mysterious mountainfolk who have mystical powers, magnificent horses, and horns growing out of their foreheads. Her ancestry is questionable, although it is a secret. His world turns upside down upon the death of his mother, and then the appearance of nubs on his forehead, as if he were growing horns like a Dalriada...
