Decades have passed since the Pointer Sisters first climbed the charts, but time hasn't slowed the famous siblings down one iota, nor doused the Fire for their music. Now lining up as the trio of original members Ruth and Anita, and Ruth's daughter Issa, Billings, MT doesn't seem like the most likely venue for Pointermania, but just listen to the sound of the crowd that cheered them on at the 2004 show recorded for this album. No surprise that the trio chose to run through a tight set of their hits, including a brief refrain of their first smash, 1973's "Yes We Can Can," performed hip-hop style and appended to "How Long (Betcha' Got a Chick on the Other Side)" where they proudly trot out their rap credentials. But that wasn't nearly as groundbreaking as "Fairytale" which won them a Grammy for Best Country Performance, a first (and so far only) for a soul group. But that was the Pointer Sisters' strength, their musical elasticity allowed them to easily transcend genres, taking them into the mainstream and onto MTV, and with the title track, even into the rock world with a hit penned by Bruce Springsteen. This set showcases that diversity, the arrangements ranging from funk to R&B, hip-hop to disco, and ending with a storming version of Willie Dixon's "Wang Dang Doodle." This two-disc set gives you the best of both world, allowing fans to watch the Pointer Sisters strut their stuff on DVD (which also includes interviews, a photo gallery and more) and blare it out of your stereo on CD at home or anywhere your iPod takes you.
