FIRE hasn't withstood the years as well as the author's more famous work: I AM LEGEND, this book was published in the late 40's and it shows. Nothing wrong with that except I'm not the type who can easily ignore anachronisms. FIRE is well written and the characters are well developed and believable, a sort of forest-firefighters procedural. Give it a try if you don't mind the old fashioned ideas and attitudes.
