For the wealthy Buchanans, the town of Prosperity has delivered everything its name promises. Not that Cassidy Buchanan cares about money, cars, or expensive clothes - unlike her beautiful older sister. All Cassidy wants is to ride her horses. Then her father hires Brig McKenzie, a handsome troublemaker who ignites a storm of rivalry. By summer's end, a fatal fire rages through the Buchanans' saw mill, tearing the family apart - and Brig disappears, presumed guilty of arson. Seventeen years later, Cassidy has never stopped trying to uncover the truth about that terrible crime. Now married to Brig's brother, Chase, she's come back to Prosperity to find closure. Instead, she encounters a fresh nightmare. Another fire is set, deliberate and deadly. Some view Cassidy as a suspect - others believe she's the target. How much bad luck is there for one person? In this story you find out that "luck" has nothing to do with it. A coniving plot from start to finish that spans nearly two decades one has to wonder about such cunning. You are kept guessing almost to the end about who the killer is and the motives. You are surprised to find it is the person it is. There are several twists in the plot and it is with welcome that you come to realize that the hero/lover from years ago has made good on his life with nothing when he left. It is even better to find he was true to the gal he was falling for when she knew him. That she has no clue is just as well. That she pined for so many years, even while moving on with her life (and nearly destroying her marriage with that first love) is a sign of true love. How is it then, that she does not realize her one "true love" when he comes to her? That is the spin on the story. Likely seeable as soon as it occurs by the reader; one feels the need to continue to find out how it will be told. And it is told well - although a stretch by those of us who think we would never be fooled when we felt a love that strong to begin with. Given these circumstances the draw is magnetic and the reasons for her being unaware are believable. Great read!
