Excerpt from Fellow Travellers: A Personally Conducted Journey in Three Continents, With Impressions There is no lack of orderly and exhaustive books of travel. I myself have been guilty of adding one or two to the long list. But there is also room, I believe, for a book of this de scription, where orderliness of arrangement is sacrificed to what the author believes to be of most interest to his readers, and geography fig ures less than men and women and events. AS the long journey of nearly forty thousand miles here described, occupying almost a year, was undertaken solely for the advancement of the Christian Endeavor cause, the time was largely Spent in attending conventions. I have not described many of these in detail, because, though most of them were extremely interest ing and inspiring, they were necessarily of a Somewhat local character. Still, not a few of the chapters relate to matters of special inter est to Christian Endeavorers. If these frequent meetings, with their attendant duties, prevented in many cases much sight-seeing, this lack was made up by the more intimate glimpses of life in unusual conditions which the mere Sight seer could not have obtained, for the distinctive purpose of my journey opened many doors that would otherwise have been closed.
